Lyn

merchandiser

I'm Lyn and I'm a Merchandiser for Jersey knitwear.

I've worked for George for over 14 years now. In this time I've worked across almost all departments in George. A few years ago I even spent a year on secondment to our Trading & Development Team, which really helped me to broaden my understanding of our business, stores and customers.

On a day-to-day basis, my job involves looking at sales performance to analyse how long lines have been on sale and how quickly the stock has sold. I'll then take market conditions into consideration and make decisions on the line's lifespan, and whether we should think about discounting it. I work closely with the Buyers and suppliers on a day-to-day basis and am involved with many other areas of the business, such as design and technology when we get together to plan what product we wish to put in store and when.

To do my job well I need to be organised, have a good head for numbers and really understand our George shoppers. Sometimes it can be a bit of a mystery why a line's not selling, so you need to do some 'detective' work to get to the heart of the matter.

We've very close links with suppliers and this has taken me literally all around the world to Turkey, Mauritius, Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
