George manager - ASDA Minworth store
My name is Margaret. I'm the George Manager for the Minworth store and have been since 2000. I was working at ASDA for 11 years before that, so I've worked in both food and fashion retail.
Every day starts with a floor walk to check the stock and make sure everything's in good order. Then I'll check the warehouse for stock levels and to see whether any new lines have come in overnight. Then I'll check the previous day's sales to see that we've met our targets.
A big part of my role is coaching and developing my team to offer exceptional service to our customers. Customers shopping in the George department often want a more interactive experience than if they are shopping for their groceries and so it's our role to provide this by being on hand to give an opinion or attend to a customer in the fitting room.
As a Manager I lead a team of colleagues and so every day I hold three team meetings, or huddles as we call them at ASDA, throughout the day, which are quick meetings to ensure all the shifts are kept up-to-date. This is a chance to share any news we have about new stock arriving, promotions which are starting, how the business is doing and to celebrate people's individual successes. I really like the huddles and it just wouldn't be the same place without them.
