garment technologist
My name is Samantha and I'm a George Garment Technologist.
I joined George in 2002 as a Graduate having completed a Fabric and Textile Management degree course at Nottingham Trent University.
Since then I've received most of my technical training on the job. My work today is always fascinating, working with buyers, designers and suppliers across a wide range of fashions.
My work can change from day to day. For example one day I'll be fitting samples on our models, the next I'll be checking our competitors' stores and then I'll be getting ready to go on a business trip to visit one of our suppliers. I'm involved at every stage of the product lifecycle, from working with designers to draw up specifications and conducting fittings with the buyers to looking at production issues and making commercial decisions. I'm always in contact with suppliers giving them the feedback they need to give us the very best service.
I'd say it's not a job for the faint-hearted. You have to be strong enough to have some very frank conversations from time to time! You also have to have a passion for product, respect for what George stands for and be dedicated to delivering great value to our customers.
