“Fashion is not a luxury. Quality should not be a privilege”

There are two types of role in our Garment Technology team, one focusing on garment makeup and fit, the other on fabric construction and quality. Technologists work with suppliers worldwide ensuring the best manufacturing techniques and ethical guidelines are used to manufacture clothes which are well made, long lasting, consistent in quality and at an affordable price. On the creative side they advise designers on the best ways to translate their ideas into volume fashion ranges. Business-wise, they advise Buyers on how different production techniques can maximise quality and minimise cost.

Quality and durability, with affordability sewn in

The Fabric team keeps our designers and buyers fully aware of the latest developments in materials and fabric technology, ensuring that the fabrics we use deliver those twin promises of quality and durability. They also keep an eye out for alternative fabrics which might improve existing products. And they work with suppliers to advise them on production methods to reduce costs, making our clothes ever more affordable.

Since 2009, we have invested £40m in improving all of our clothing. To demonstrate our continued commitment to providing affordable, quality clothing that is made to last, we launched the first 100-day quality Guarantee on all of George's school uniforms. In 2010 we extended this guarantee, becoming the first clothing retailer to offer a permanent "no quibble" 100 day guarantee on all our clothing. This allows shoppers to return any item of clothing within that time if they are not completely satisfied with the quality, and receive a full refund, no matter how many times it has been washed or worn. Any clothing returned to George is recycled, contributing to our Zero Waste to Landfill commitment.
