What we're looking for

So what does a global fashion brand look for in its people? And how do you know if fashion retail is for you? Well don't worry, we offer a highly diverse range of roles for people with different skills, so there's bound to be one for you.

However, we do all share a common goal of providing quality clothing at great value to millions of George customers, as well as:

  • A real passion for our work
  • Commercial awareness
  • Desire to keep on learning
  • Good self-awareness
  • A strong customer focus.

Merchanising

Our Merchandisers work side by side with our Buyers. They manage the department budget and are effectively the Buyer's bank manager to ensure that they deliver our profit targets. They analyse sales performance and stock levels. From this they determine what money can be spent or what cancellations need to be actioned if the sales aren't good. Based on sales performance we work with the Buyer by taking action to repeat bestsellers and limit the risk of worst-sellers. The Merchandiser needs to plan as much flexibility into the budget commitment as possible in order to maximise opportunity whilst mitigating the risk. The mix of skills you need include:

  • Strong numerical skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Planning skills
  • A commercial eye for fashion
  • Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • An eye for detail
  • An understanding of the customer
  • Methodical
  • PC Skills including excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to work at pace
  • Teamwork.
